WHO WE ARE
Africa Beyond Colonisation is a Pan-African think-and-do tank committed to awakening Africans on the continent and in the diaspora to their own power, responsibility and essential role in Africa's development.
At ABC, we believe Africa's development cannot be understood without examining colonial history, continuing global inequalities and the systems that shape people's choices. However, these realities should not become permanent explanations for inaction or reasons to believe that change is impossible.
Although Africa's development is influenced by forces both within and beyond the continent, Africans must remain central to determining its direction and shaping its future.
Africa Beyond Colonisation is therefore not about forgetting history. It is about understanding its continuing effects, and deciding what we do next.

OUR VISION & MISSION
A future shaped
from within.
OUR VISION
We envision a self-determined and economically free Africa, whose people, families and institutions strengthen one another and possess the confidence and practical capacity to shape the continent's future on their own terms.
We envision the African-diaspora as an active partner in this future contributing knowledge, skills, networks, and resources to support African-led solutions and development.
OUR MISSION
ABC produces research, develops practical interventions, and advances policy ideas that strengthen the capacity of African people, families, and institutions to shape their own future.
We examine how historical legacies and present-day systems influence identity, family life, leadership, and development, and we translate this knowledge into dialogue, community programmes, and practical solutions across Africa and the diaspora.

OUR APPROACH
Ask better questions
Build practical responses.
People and families shape citizens and leaders; institutions shaps the conditions in which people and families live.
ABC connects the private and the public. We examine how people and families shape society, and how institutions shape the conditions in which people and families live. Our work therefore combines individual and community agency with institutional responsibility, because lasting development requires both the capacity to act and conditions that make meaningful action possible.

MEET THE FOUNDER

Georgina Ankomah
FOUNDER, ABC
Georgina founded ABC with a question: what does it mean for Africa to be truly free?
Her pursuit of economic emancipation led her to explore how development begins with individuals and families -the first institution of society. Her work connects these foundations with the wider conditions that enable African societies and diaspora communities to shape their own future.
From questions to collective possibility.
